Workshop: Exploring MAiD as a Choice For Dementia
The four 2 hour sessions look at MAiD in Canada, with a focus on Dementia. The facilitator draws on her own lived experience as a nurturing companion to her husband challenged with Alzheimer’s as they journeyed towards MAiD. The use of videos from the 2024 World Federation of Right To Die Conference held in Dublin Ireland which the facilitator presented are used to enhance the quality of participants learning.
A safe, comfortable environment for sharing is created by limiting the maximum number of participants to 12.
These sessions explore personal quality of life, what might seriously compromise this quality of life and options should this happen. They look at grieving and mourning losses which occur in Dementia and focus on how to move forward by taking back control or being in the driver’s seat. Self-nurturing can also addressed. The sessions offer opportunities for whole group and small group discussion and personal reflection. Participants are also pointed in the direction of current and relevant resources for further learning.
